ABOUT ESSENCES FOR LIFE
Welcome to the web pages of Essences for Life. I founded this business in 2014 in order to inform people about the extraordinary world of essence healing, and to make more widely available in the UK the amazing Pacific Essences.
The world badly needs essences. They are gentle, non-intrusive gifts of nature, which can help us to restore harmony to our body, mind and spirit, and to achieve a life we really love.
My own journey with essences is in some ways a lifelong one, as my late father's interest in various kinds of complementary medicine began in the 1960s. Dad was taught about essences and dowsing by Aubrey Westlake, author of an amazing book called The Pattern of Health, and himself a pupil of Dr Bach. So among my earliest memories are angry Sagittarian generalisations to the effect that 'all conventional medicines do is supress the symptoms!' or 'there is no such thing as side effects, only effects!' The homeopathic principles that you treat like with like, and that the more you dilute towards the energetic signature, the more powerful the remedy, were taken as read. I also associate childhood illness with the taste of the brandy that is a preservative in essences, since the Bach remedies, alongside homeopathy were treatments of choice. Another strong memory was seeing Dad with his pendulum, hair samples and racks of dowsing boards: of course you should use intuition rather than logic to work out what each individual needs.
The honest truth is that while all this was around me, it made little impression when I was younger. I certainly had no ambition to become anything to do with alternative medicine, or alternative anything, really. My mainstream educational career flourished. I spent time at the universities of Oxford and Birmingham, studying politics, which of course was my juvenile vision of how to change the world. Since 1994 I have taught at Keele University, where I still relish teaching young people about the utopian catastrophe that was the Soviet Union, and the ghastly aftermath of that failed experiment, and also helping those young people to make some clear choices for their lives and avoid sleepwalking on to the conveyor belt that leads to the rat race. At least choose it consciously!
From about age 30, it would be fair to say that the lustre of the mainstream faded somewhat. Writing obscure academic papers for a tiny readership stopped appealing, as did the over specialisation which is required by universities with their unwritten rule that you don't publically pronounce on anything on which you aren't an 'expert'. I returned to an enthusiasm of my teenage years, and trained up as an astrologer, eventually after a few false starts qualifying in 2010, and practicing and teaching ever since. You can read more about that part of my work on our Ho'oponopono Astrology site, developed with my amazing colleague Georgina Spencer. At the same time I picked up a pendulum for the first time and discovered that, for me at least, the talent seemed to be inherited. I began to experiment with using essences as part of my readings. Astrology is a powerful tool for identifying issues to work on, and making sense of what's happening in our lives and all around us. But what follows from that? Essences can help support us to make much needed changes in our thinking, behaviour and spiritual life. I found I had a particular affinity with the Pacific Essences, I think because the sea essences work at the same kind of deep emotional and psychological level which most interests me in my consulting work.
That's where Lisa's story - told in her inimitable way below - came in. It was my success with helping her through a health crisis which made me decide to get on a plane to Western Canada, train with the wonderful Sabina Pettitt and learn how essences really work. Just a year after that, Sabina asked me to become a facilitator for Pacific Essences and help spread the word; simultaneously the opportunity came up to become UK distributor, and it made complete sense to try to take both roles on. As people learn about how to the essences it is good to be able to supply them also, and with substantial student discount! Teaching about essences is a great vehicle for me to communicate what I have learned on my own spiritual journey, and to support people in making the kind of choices which lead to greater hapiness and fulfilment. I hope I continue to have this opportunity for many years to come.
