What is an essence?
Essences are liquid healing substances made from the energies of nature (plants, sea creatures or minerals). They contain the unique energy signature of the plant, mineral or sea creature, recorded through the action of sunlight on water and preserved in alcohol.
Human beings as well as a body, have thoughts, emotions and a Spirit which infuses all three. Where any of these are not functioning harmoniously, we can get sick. This can be physical, or 'spirit sickness' manifesting as feelings such as despair, lack of enthusiasm, or feeling lost or alone.
When we take essences (usually as drops under the tongue) their pure energy signature helps us to restore balance and harmony. The body responds like a tuning fork responds to the vibration of a second tuning fork nearby.
How do essences work?
Plants have been used by human beings in many societies for thousands of years, for ritual, decoration, and for healing. Dr Edward Bach, the British doctor and homeopath who introduced flower essences to the modern world, was dedicated to an approach based on two principles: that the body is able to heal itself, and that medicine should do no harm. That said, if in doubt, ask a medical practitioner.
Are essences OK to use with other treatment?
There are many different essence ranges available, some of which are outstanding quality and come highly recommended. However I have found the Pacific Essences range has offered me options for all the scenarios that I have worked with as an essence practitioner. I particularly love the 24 sea essences, which were the world's first essences made with the participation of large and small sea creatures and sea plants, and seem to work at a very deep emotional level.
The wonderful Sabina Pettit, the creator of the Pacific Essences, has among other things trained in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and has been very careful to align these essences with TCM's principles. Therefore medical professionals who already work with these approaches will find these essences particularly valuable.
Why Pacific Essences?
The medical establishment for its own reasons is reluctant to carry out research which compares the effectiveness of different kinds of intervention. So sadly essences haven't been subjected to the same kinds of scrutiny as more mainstream approaches. Deepak Chopra suggests that a good way of thinking about the effects of essences and similar approaches is 'overwhelming anecdotal evidence'. Our testimonials page provides some of this. Anyone who is interested in the science of essences will find some thought-provoking material on our Essence Resources page, including some background on how the effects of Pacific Essences were tested using the principles of traditional Chinese medicine.
How effective are essences?
Essences are a powerful way to catalyse deep emotional shifts which we have come to recognie we need in other ways. They are a wonderful complement to a course of counselling or psychotherapy designed to overcome a particular issue. They are also brilliant with astrology, where a birth chart reading can uncover something we didn't know we didn't know, or a forecast can show us sailing in troubled seas.
Of course an essence reading on its own can be extremely powerful too.
